more about The Global Simplicity Index™

In order to understand the causes and consequences of business complexity, we have created the first ever Global Simplicity Index™.

This insightful study has been compiled by world-renowned academic Simon Collinson – Professor of International Business at Warwick Business School.

Simon’s academic review has identified over 100 potential Complexity Drivers covering a variety of dimensions of your business.

We have compared the Fortune Global 200 companies on a variety of Complexity Drivers to create a ranking of the world’s most complex companies. This study provides powerful insight into the real causes and consequences of complexity in big companies.

To help us understand how complexity affects your business performance, we have also correlated our complexity dimensions with seven business performance dimensions. This allows us to create a Complexity Curve.

The Complexity Curve shows that as your company grows, it adds new products, people and processes, all of which initially help you perform better. We call this good complexity. However, businesses carry on adding complexity until eventually the business becomes much more complex than it needs to be. This excess complexity slows you down, costs you money and makes work feel harder than it should. We call this bad complexity.

We have quantified the impact of bad complexity. On average, it reduces the profits (EBITDA) of the Fortune Global 200 Companies by 10.2%.

As part of our study, we also interviewed over 2000 business leaders and managers to understand how these different types of bad complexity affected them on a daily basis.

We can benchmark your business against the Fortune Global 200 companies, so you can identify where bad complexity is damaging your performance, and how much it is costing you.

The full study report was published on 9th March 2011. You can receive a free copy of the report by clicking here to register.

Even if your company is not one of the Fortune 200 biggest companies in the world, we can still tell you where your company would come in the ranking and where your company is on the Complexity Curve. You will just need to provide us with a little bit of information so we can add you in.
